Density

The density of a liquid is very important to determine the mass or volume of a product. Also it is very important to determine the quality of a petroleum product. There are various test methods to determine the density of a petroleum product. Some test methods use a hydrometer to determine the density of the sample at a known temperature. For these test methods, the Tamson ASTM D1298 setup can be used. These test methods can be used to test the density, relative density or API gravity.

When determining the density of bitumen, pycnometers are used. For this test method the Tamson ASTM D70 setup can be used.

The Tamson ASTM D1480 setup can be used for the density and relative density of viscous materials.
