Why is the copper corrosion strip test by liquidied petroleum gases (ASTM D1838) important?

Copper corrosion limits provide assurance that difficulties will not be experienced in deterioration of the copper and copper-alloy fittings and connections that are commonly used in many types of utilization, storage, and transportation equipment.

Summary of the test method

A polished copper strip is immersed in approximately 100 mL of the sample and exposed at a temperature of 37.8 °C (100 °F) for one hour in a cylinder of suitable working pressure inside a copper corrosion bath. At the end of this period, the copper strip is removed and rated as one of the four classifications of the ASTM copper strip corrosion standard.

Why should you use a  Tamson LPG copper corrosion bath to determine corrosiveness to copper from liquified petroleum gases?

Our LPG copper corrosion baths are the most robust in the market with a temperature range from ambient +5°C to 80°C. The LPG copper corrosion bath is specifically designed to hold a temperature stable at 37.8°C without the use of an external cooling circulator. At exceptional high ambient temperatures the built-in cooling coil can be used. The bath is deep enough to accommodate four LPG corrosion test cylinders in an upright position. The LPG corrosion test cylinder is manufactured by Tamson. It is supplied with a works certificate stating that the cylinder is pressure tested to withstand a minimum pressure of 6900 kPa (1000 psig) and leak free when tested at 3450 kPa. All essential parts of the LPG copper corrosion bath are made from stainless steel. The LPG copper corrosion bath has a standard drain to empty the bath content. All the required accessories and consumables for ASTM D1838, ISO 6251, and IP411 tests are supplied by Tamson. Examples of consumables and accessories for LPG copper corrosion tests are LPG corrosion test cylinders, the ASTM copper strip corrosion test standard,  copper strips (99.9% purity), P220 sanding paper, a multistrip vise, silicon carbide powder (1 kg), flat viewing test tubes, and test tube holders.
