Tamson TV4000AKV
Tamson CEC L-48-00 (B) Oxidation stability for lubricating oils
Tamson is excited to announce the new TV4000AKV, replacing the TV2000AKV. The modular TV4000AKV EASY is a measuring system that includes everything you need to take precise and reproducible automated kinematic viscosity measurements. The TV4000AKV EASY is supplied with a single automated measuring channel. Filling and cleaning of the viscometer must be done manually. The AKV EASY is operated by a user-friendly touch screen and is capable of measuring the kinematic viscosity of samples that are suitable for Ubbelohde viscometers. This includes samples such as formulated oils, lubricants, diesel, hydraulic oils, additives, base oils, light fuels, waxes, crude oils and glycols. Eight different viscometers can be programmed in the system and up to 254 results are saved in the database and can be printed at any time. Each result consists of up to 99 runs. These runs can be done sequentially without interference from the user. The maximum time between two sequential runs is four hours. This allows the customer to test how the viscosity changes over time. The system determines the best repeatability from the measuring runs and supports calculation of the dynamic, relative and intrinsic viscosity. Optionally, the TV4000AKV EASY can be equipped with two measuring channels (dual channel). In the future, Tamson will introduce a single measuring channel equipped with a semi-automated cleaning module. The system will rinse the viscometer with the manually inserted cleaning solvent.

The global market share for Electric Vehicles (EV) increases every year. EV require different lubricants compared to internal combustion engines (ICE). EV drivelines have fewer moving parts, incorporate different materials and operate under conditions that are, in many ways, different than those of ICE vehicles. The critical characteristics of the lubricants need to change. With the increasing sales of EV, this becomes more and more important. To accomodate these changes, SAE has launced an instruction (SAE J3200™). This instruction includes the addition of the CEC L-48-00 oxidation test. Because of this change, we have launced a CEC L-48-00 apparatus.

CEC L-48-00 assesses resistance of lubricants to high temperature oxidation and the ability to resist oil degradation and sludging. A lubricant is heated and aerated under controlled conditions. The samples are tested for kinematic viscosity change and infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR). The viscosity increase and the degree of oxidation are determined by  comparing the fresh and aged oil. In both cases, the smaller the increase the better.

Tamson is happy to introduce our new CEC L 48-00 (B) apparatus, a six position bath for this oxidation test. The robust
and well insulated apparatus is delivered with six sets of glassware. Stand-rods with clamps to hold the glassware in the
same position, six calibrated flowmeters, and tubing are included in the apparatus. Other accessories required for this
test method are supplied by Tamson as well including viscosity baths.
